Introducing Dr. Andrew Iain MacKenzie
Consultant Dermatologist | MBChB (Edin), MRCP(UK), MRCP (DERM)
For comprehensive, patient-focused Dermatology care, please don’t hesitate to book an appointment (being happy to provide virtual consultations where clinically appropriate). I see both self-pay and BUPA-insured patients as a BUPA Platinum recognised Consultant Dermatologist and I would be delighted to assist you with all your Dermatological concerns.
I was fortunate to receive rigorous Dermatology training in Edinburgh, achieving MRCP (DERM) in 2014. I have since had the privilege of serving as a Consultant Dermatologist over the past decade- with extensive experience in both the NHS and private sectors across the Borders, Lothian and Tayside.
Philosophy:
My practice is guided by a commitment to delivering safe, effective, evidence-based care with empathy. I believe in tailoring precise treatments to suit each patient’s unique needs, incorporating the latest advancements in diagnostics and therapeutics.
Personal Interests:
Outside of work, I treasure time spent with my amazing wife and our wonderful young children: embracing the joys of family life. I also find relaxation in leisurely walks with our dog.
For comprehensive, patient-focused Dermatology care, please don’t hesitate to book an appointment. I can see self pay or health insured patients (being a recognised Dermatologist with BUPA)
Please contact the clinic to book in and I would be delighted to assist you with your Dermatological concerns.
Specialist Interests:
Whilst I practice the full spectrum of General Dermatology, my key areas of expertise include:

-
Medical Dermatology: I manage the full range of medical Dermatology, from common conditions such as acne (including oral isotretinoin / Roaccutane where appropriate), rosacea, eczema and psoriasis, through to more complex or treatment-resistant disease.

Notes
-
Plans cover follow-up consultations only. Prescriptions, medications, procedures, and investigations are charged separately where applicable.
-
Plans are linked to one primary condition or episode of care, and are non-transferable.
-
If a histology results consultation is included within a procedure package, that consultation remains included within the procedure package and does not count towards a follow-up plan.
-
Unused consultations expire at the end of the validity period.
Frequently asked questions:
How often are follow-ups arranged? For oral isotretinoin, follow-ups take place monthly.
How many follow-ups will I need? The 5-review plan is designed for a typical 4-month course of oral isotretinoin, and the 7-review package is designed for a typical 6-month course.
Why can course length vary between patients? The duration of oral isotretinoin is individualised based on your clinical response. The aim is to achieve clearance and then continue for a further month, as this approach is associated with a lower risk of future recurrence.
What if I choose the 5-review plan but I need longer treatment? If a longer course is needed, we can advise whether it is best to add individual follow-ups or move to the 7-review package.
Can follow-ups be by telephone instead of face-to-face? Yes. Follow-ups may be by telephone or face-to-face, depending on what is clinically appropriate and what suits you.
